What should you use to dress severely-bleeding wounds?

In the case of severe bleeding, the priority is to effectively stop the blood loss by applying pressure to the wound site. A pressure dressing consisting of sterile gauze or cloth and a bandage should be applied to press the dressing material against the wound, which can be done using items from the first aid kit visible in the photo. Using gauze alone without pressure is insufficient, and using staining agents (such as iodine) makes it difficult to assess the wound and does not stop the bleeding.
