Is it allowed to tow a passenger car on the highway to the nearest exit or rest area?

Towing on a motorway is only permitted for vehicles specially designed for this purpose, i.e., breakdown assistance vehicles, and only to the nearest exit or service area. According to Art. 31 para. 2 pt. 5 of the Road Traffic Act, an ordinary passenger car cannot tow another vehicle. This prohibition was introduced for safety reasons and due to the high speeds on motorways.
