How should a tram driver pass through the section isolator placed on the overhead line?

A section insulator is a component of the overhead line which separates two power supply sections, causing a momentary interruption in the power supply. Passing through this point while drawing power, i.e., during acceleration, risks creating a damaging electric arc. Therefore, to prevent damage to the pantograph and the overhead line, the tram driver must pass through the insulator without drawing power – by coasting or while braking.
