Where is the neutral position most commonly found in motorcycles equipped with a manual gear box?

In the vast majority of motorcycles equipped with a manual, sequential gearbox, the neutral position is located between first and second gear. The typical arrangement is one gear engaged downwards and the remaining gears upwards (sequence: 1-N-2-3-4...). This design makes it easier to find neutral quickly when stopping the vehicle and prevents accidentally shifting into the neutral position when changing down from higher gears.
