What might cause the escape of smoke from the Bogie?

The traction bogie shown in the picture is a running gear assembly which houses the electric motors. A short circuit in the motor windings causes a rapid increase in temperature and a high-current flow, leading to the melting and burning of the insulation. The emission of smoke is a direct result of this phenomenon.
