While driving a farm tractor downhill should you turn off the gear?

Driving downhill with a disengaged gear (coasting) is not permitted, as it deprives the driver of the ability to use engine braking. The entire load of braking then rests on the brakes, which, on a long descent, can lead to them overheating and a loss of effectiveness. Maintaining an engaged, appropriately low gear allows for safe control of the vehicle's speed.
