Is it permitted to move away from the car when the engine is running?

The regulations prohibit a driver from moving away from the vehicle when its engine is running. According to Art. 60 para. 2 pt. 1 of the Road Traffic Act, such behaviour is not permitted for safety reasons – the vehicle could be stolen or start moving on its own. Furthermore, leaving the engine running causes unnecessary exhaust emissions and noise.
