When do you use the mechanical brake (also called parking brake)?

The primary function of the parking brake is to immobilise the vehicle when stationary, which effectively prevents it from rolling away, especially on an incline. It also acts as an emergency brake, therefore its use while driving is permissible only in the event of a failure of the main braking system (service brake), mainly in the final stage of reducing speed.
